Reimagining The Geodesic Dome

Geodesic dome tents have a number of advantages over other portable event structures but there are a few barriers or pain points that have prevented them from being widely used within the experiential marketing and outdoor event space.

We attacked those pain points, introducing a simplified event dome without sacrificing customization. We did that by building our domes with a lightweight, anodized aluminum framework and creating the first tool-free dome design.

To eliminate the manual and clunky bolt system, we designed a 3-way push button connector. Simply press the button on a connector and insert one of the aluminum poles. This design feature not only reduces the number of people required to install the dome but also reduces setup time by more than 2 hours.

Steel is more commonly used in dome design because it’s cheaper—but it’s also more dense—which is why steel domes weigh so much. Anodized aluminum is ⅓ weight of steel, delivering a much higher strength-to-weight ratio. This allowed us to reduce the number of pole supports needed without sacrificing durability—reducing overall weight by more than 60%. Fewer poles also means reduced setup time, reduced costs, and increased portability.

With dye-sublimation printing, the ink is absorbed and actually becomes part of the fabric itself. As a result, the print cannot be damaged with wear and it won't crack or peel.

Our proprietary material, Duranti, is 100%, polyester woven fabric with a super strong tensile and tear strength.

Duranti is approved for rugged outdoor use and is flame-retardant, fire-rated, water resistant, mildew resistant, and UV resistant.

In addition to events, domes have been adopted by breweries, wineries, and restaurants. Yoga and fitness studios have begun to host fitness classes within domes. Here are some of the ways domes can be customized for your brand and experience.

The wood counter extensions install in 30 seconds and can attach to both the interior and exterior of the dome windows to support experiences both inside and outside of the dome.

Custom Printing

While a standard geodesic dome tent itself captures attention, the entire exterior of the dome can be printed with logos, branding or any other custom graphics and colors. And since the entire structure is built and fabricated in-house, adding custom printing will not impact turnaround time.

The dome cover can also be customized to include 5 perimeter windows. The windows are made of clear vinyl and open and close using a zipper system. When open, the windows roll up and secure just below the window opening.

If you're setting the dome up in a hotter climate or during summer months, windows are recommended—otherwise you’ll want to use a portable AC unit.

A stake kit is included with every dome purchase and should be used when the dome is not positioned on concrete. A mallet or sledgehammer is not included.

  • What is the expected turnaround time?

  • On average, a custom printed event dome ships within 5-7 business days. Transit time depends on shipping location and shipping method.

  • What event domes sizes are available?

  • For now, the 20’ diameter dome is the only available size. Larger sizes will be available in the future.

  • Why use anodized aluminum instead of steel for the dome frame?

  • Anodized aluminum is not only stronger than steel but also weighs 66% less than steel--therefore, we were able to reduce the overall weight by 66% without sacrificing strength & durability. This is also why we choose to manufacture our heavy duty canopy tent frames with anodized aluminum. Within the event industry, portability and easy transport is paramount.

  • How much is a dome tent?

  • A 20' diameter dome event tent costs about $8,500 with custom printing. That includes the frame, cover, staking system, rubber door threshold, and heavy duty transport wagon. The frame hardware includes a lifetime frame warranty

  • What is the dome cover made of and how does it attach to the frame?

  • The cover is made of a heavy duty, 600 denier polyester which is the same material used to make our pop up event tents. This material is lighter weight which simplifies and speeds up installation. The cover and material is water resistant. View the setup instructions to see how the cover attaches to the frame.

  • What is the capacity?

  • Standing capacity is approximately 30-35 people without feeling too cluttered. With tables, chairs and counter extensions, capacity would be closer to 20-25.

  • Can it be used in heavy winds and rain?

  • Yes. The dome shape and fit of the cover is designed to shed water down the sides of the structure

    Weights & Ballasting:
    Five 3' long stakes and straps are included with the dome. When properly installed, these stakes will secure the dome against wind-speeds up to 42mph.

    If you'll be setting the dome up on a surface where stakes cannot be used such as asphalt or concrete, we have a water ballasting system that secures to the base of the frame. When properly installed, the water weights will secure the dome tent against wind speeds up to 35 mph.

    The dome shape and fit of the cover is designed to shed water down the sides of the structure.

  • How long does a dome structure take to set up?

  • 45 to 60 minutes with 2-3 people. If you're installing a dome without any windows, setup time will be closer to 45 minutes.

    If you're setting up a dome with windows, you'll be closer to 60 minutes. The windows have zipper pole pockets that need to be secured around the window frame.

  • How much does the dome frame and cover weigh?

  • The entire frame weighs 150 lbs. When fabricated without any windows, the dome cover is approximately 36 lbs. When adding clear vinyl windows (which zip open and close) the dome cover weight increases to approximately 46 lbs.

    The dome tent system also includes five 3’ long stakes and straps.

  • What is the warranty?

  • The geodesic frame hardware is backed by a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects and workmanship. Replacement pieces can also be swapped out easily in case something unexpected does happen that is outside of the warranty. The cover is backed by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects and workmanship.

  • What is the square footage of a 20' diameter geodesic dome?

  • The square footage of a geodesic dome with a 20' diameter is just over 314 square feet.
